Q: Should I buy a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback or a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport?
The Galaxie has a 302 with 50,000 miles on it but has a better interior and exterior, however, the Gran Torino has a completely rebuilt 351 Cleveland bored over .30 but has a worse exterior and interior…I AM SO CONFUSED!!!!!
A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.fateback.com
Q: Will a Powerstroke diesel with the turbo and inter-cooler fit in a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport engine bay?
Have one without a engine or transmission.
A: I know a guy with one in a early 2000s Mustang. A lot of work, though and probably pretty expensive. A Cummins might be better, and a 12 valve would be easier
Q: 1973 Gran Torino, where could one find an engine code?
A: The engine code is the 5th digit in the Vin#. The “Q” code is the 351CJ. It had open chamber heads a hotter cam and different valves than the standard 351-4. This was also the only engine available with a 4 speed transmission in 72-73
The H code was the 2V 351C. There was a 429 offered, but the compression was lowered for emission standards.
Q: What does a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport have for an engine?
A: 351 c 351 m400,429,460,odds are if its a big its a 351 or a 460.m400 and 429 are rare,but if you have a 429 smile.
Q: my 1973 gran torino with a 351c, runs up to 220 degrees with a/c on in heavy traffic, is this normal?
A: I would get a 180 degree thermostat and put it in, though an engine that sits with the a/c on too long without moving will eventually get hot. New cars with electric fan won’t.
Q: top speed of a 1973 Gran Torino sport 351 cleveland engine?
this was a “stock” from factory 4 barrel cob
A: Well hard to say? how far: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1 mile, inffinity. I had one 6 years ago. It ran very well in a quater mile it ran a 13 flat@ 114 mph bone stock. Sold the car 2 weeks latter for $4000.00 SUPER CLEAN
Q: say you owned a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport. I want to know what would you do to make it stand out?need ideas?
mine has no engine, transmission or interior. The body was already stripped down to bare metal(no bondo!) when I got it and has lots of rust holes in the floor, trunk and top but other then that and the cracked front window it’s OK. What engine/drivetrain package should I install? How about the suspension, brakes and steering? Basically how would YOU turn this into the greatest Gran Torino in the world. OH! yes i plan on painting it red with the stripe but with color red and should I mount a wing on the trunk lid(I was thinking scoop but was told you can’t mount one because of the shape of the back end).? How about adding a scoop to the hood? you know the type that mounts to the carp not the hood.
A: The good points
1. The engine bay is big enough for any powerplant Ford ever made.
2. the rear styling is sharp.
3. It has got great “hips”.
The bad point:
1. That UGLY front bumper off a NYC Taxi.
They sure killed the front end looks on that car in the change from 1972 to 1973. (I had a 1974 that was even uglier.)
I would say:
“Accent the positives : fill the engine bay with Ford power of the correct vintage (429-460), put a low low wing or flip up spoiler on the rear, add curved stripes to accent the “hips”, and diminish the negative
If no one make a custom front bumper for that car, then draw attention away from the bumper to the top by sticking a tunnel ram or belt driven blower out a hole in the hood. or find someone to put the 1972 style scoop, on your 1973, it was sexier.”

And, “Please, please, please don’t go Starsky and Hutch”
PS I did not see SVO man’s comment but I see way too many Starsky and Hutch-mobiles on the road now, be original.!!
Old Fart Ford Lover
I thought of two more ways:
1. paint it Taxi Cab yellow with checkerboard stripes
2. paint it Jonh Deere Greene with yellow stripes to make it look like farm equipment (no insult intended, I am here in rural Kansas myself.) That front bumper is just too ugly.
Q: what is this called? 1973 ford gran torino part?

ah thanks…yeah i checked autozone.com and sure enough it was there..thanks..
thanks everyone
A: Mug a wump is your welcome in cherokee. All that room in ththur and they have to lay the parts down side ways . Hardly leaves room for the fryin pan.
Q: 1973 gran turino parts swap with mustang?
my friend asked me to help restor his 1973 gran torino sport.some parts are hard to get i was wounder if parts off a 73 mustang will interchange like gas tank sender unit and miscellaneous parts
A: Drive train parts are mostly interchangeable, but things like suspension, gas tanks, steering linkage, etc. won’t be. The Torino was in a different family of Ford cars, better to look to Mercury Montego, or even Cougar for the parts.
Q: why does my car get no spark?? 73 g torino?
i have a 1973 ford gran torino, i changed the spark plugs,distributor,the cap,the points, carburetor, spark cables,and coil,rotor.
it also has a new fuel line and pump.
batt is good, so is the alternator, starter, and starter solenoid.
it will turn over(crank) but wont spark and turn on
someone said something about an Ignition Module?
and the spark plugs are gaped ,
A: Yes. It probably is the ignition module. I’m not sure where it is located in a Gran Torino but I had a ‘77 Corvette and it was located inside of the top of the carburetor. You only need a screwdriver to get to it.

A: and the points are connected to the coil -?then try this, key on, you should have a light with a tester at the coil hot.when in crank the light should be on but brighter.there should be a circuit hooked with starter solenoid to provide 12 volt at start.when key is on position the voltage should drop.if that all works, when you crank over, the negative should light but (god i dont remember)get brighter. if it does that, physically ground the coil and with the secondary coil wire close to metal, everytime the coil ground is connected to ground and released it should spark.try jumping a hot from battery to + of coil, if it starts, look at your wiring and find the open.
