Q: Will a clutch pedal assembly from a 1970 ford torino fit in a 1970 mercury cougar?
changing over from a auto to a t-5 5 speed. using 70 torino pedal assembly going into auto drum brake ps car no pb
A: Yes as long as you have all the parts from the torino to include what bolts up to the motor and the body. The lower rod should have the
adjuster while you have it off unscrew it along with the lock nut wire brush the threads light coat of grease reinstall. If your top rod has ajustment do the same to it.Not sure on that model
Q: Help with a c6 transmission crossmember mounting in a 69 ford torino?
I have a 69 ford torino gt fastback that has a 351W with a C6 tranny, I wanted to know if the hump on the crossmember is absolutly needed or if i can use a custom straight crossmember with no hump? Thank you for your time and answers
A: You can make any trans cross member that you wish as long as the drive shaft angle to the rear pinion is not changed too much. If the drive shaft angle changes too much you will have a problem going through U joints.
Q: Can 1970 Torino parts be used in a 1970 Fairlane?
I have a 1970 Ford Fairlane 500 and was wondering if Torino parts from the similar years could be interchanged with the Fairlane parts
A: There basically the same car, everything off a Fairlaine will fit a Torino and vice-versa.
Q: 1968 Ford Torino?
I will post pics soon, but yeah….
I’m 17, and was supposed to be rebuilding a 1968 Ford Torino GT fastback ever since i was little, but never have been, because my dad keeps putting it off…
It was his car, and before that, it was his dad’s car, who bought it brand new…
Ianyways, it was wrecked badly by my dad in 1979 and then sold to someone who was going to use it for parts, but ended up fixing the whole smashed in front, and ended up sellin it back to him! well anyways, it’s been parked since about 1988, and has gone to hell: it’s rusted, motor would never rub again (most likely), and just hella other stuff…
anyways, does anyone have any ideas about some good ways to restore this car? i have seen a lot of pics of some nice ones, and personally like the 1970 and 1971 GT Torino…
so yeah, does anyone have any good ideas? i want to put a 351W in it… not sure what else afterwards…
and could anyone find any good pics of a 1968 Ford Torino GT?
Thanks!!
What is the difference between the 351 Windsor, Cleavland, and Montreal?
Which one would be best (i have heard the Windsor is pretty good, and would like to put one in with GT40 heads and a 347-stroker kit)
A: The first step is to completely dismantle the car. Catalogue and assess all parts, separate into repair and replace catagories. powerwash and sandblast the subframe and complete any structural repairs before you worry about the drivetrain. prime and paint inner structure and begin reassembly with parts jambed but exterior surfaces in primer. once all parts are reassembled, install the rebuilt engine. Now is the time to adress the interior. Once that is completed to your satisfaction, wet sand prime & seal and paint. Avoid single stage enamels. They are outdated and do not give as nice a finish as a base/ clear. Make friends with the guys in your local body shop. They are usually very helpfull when it comes to young people restoring a vehicle, and their advice and techniques are invaluable on a large project. This is just a basic rundown, and the actual process can be extensive, expensive and very time consuming. I would consider a 351 cleveland before the windsor. A much better but less common engine. A great source for repair and replacement items is a supplier called original parts group, www.original parts group.com. Hope this helps and good luck!
Q: Knight Rider: Will they ever resurrect the original Trans Am?
I saw the new Knight Rider movie last Sunday, 2/17/08 and I thought it was impressive. I liked the show and can’t wait for a TV series to come out.
In making this movie, Why were they not able to use the original Black Pontiac Trans Am like back in the 80’s??
I’m more used to seeing KITT in a Trans Am vs. the Mustang.
I know that Dukes of Hazzard (70 Dodge Charger) and Starsky & Hutch (76 Ford Torino) used the same cars when they remade their movies. Why couldn’t they do that for KITT?
Second question is, if there is a TV series……Will they ever resurrect the Trans Am as a cameo along with the return of Hasselhoff?
Your response is greatly appreciated, will vote for best answer.
A: If you watched close enough they do show the Trans-Am under a tarp in the garage of the professor. They also clearly showed the steering wheel. To me this shows that the old KITT was dismantled. I don’t think they will bring the old KITT back, but I hope I’m wrong. If they did they would have to get William Daniels to do the voice as fans would demand it, but who knows if he’d be willing to reprise his role.
Ford paid big bucks to get their car (and other cars) into this show. Also, Ford agreed to fill some of the spots with Ford commercials. Guaranteed money to NBC so why wouldn’t they so no.
Plus, as much as the new Trans-Am was loved I think the producers wanted to go with a newer car as the previous cars probably no longer belong to the studio.
Q: NEWBIE HELP FORD OPEN 8.8 REAR END UPGRADE HELP?
I have a 1969 ford torino fastback with a 351w making 400hp with a built C6 tranny, that has a OPEN stock ford 8.8 rear end. I think the vehicle weaighs about 4000 lbs. It has 18 inch rims wrapped in low profile toyo tires I am looking to upgrade it for better acceleration and also looking to add a locker. This vehicle will be used for mainly cruiseing and showing off from time to time as well as limited highway use. If possible does anyone know what type of quality, but budget minded parts I should use or the part #s to look for ? Thank you so much for your time and answers
P.s. Does anyone know any good tech article right ups on doing this kind of upgrade?
A: Look into some of the things Jeep guys are doing with the 8.8. Huge aftermarket there, and they should be able to help you.
Are you sure you don’t have a 9″? I don’t think the 8.8 was available until the early 80s
Q: Using a classic car as a daily?
I’ll be getting my license in a couple of weeks and we’ve been looking at all types of cars. Lately, I’ve been focused on finding muscle cars. I found a 1972 Ford Torino with a 351 Cleavland motor, c6 trans, 9 inch rear, and new tires new shocks. Its a one owner car and says its in “excellent running condition” with 84k original miles.
My trips to school (starting in sept) would only be about 10 miles each way, and I work less than a mile from my job. On weekends, I dont travel far. Maybe a 20mi trip to a mall, i usually stay local though. I live in NJ and would have a car to use in the snow and most rainy days. I could garage it every day as well.
My question is, would this be ok as a daily driver? Is the engine/trans reliable? Its very inexpensive (6k) and I wouldnt mind putting a little money into it.
Also, it has a QQ registration (?) And antique plates (i believe). Could i get it re-registered and use in every day?
Hahahaha i know its very impractical
Its prolly the worst choice as a first car.
How would it do with gas? Im not expecting much, but if i drive like a normal human being, whats the max i could see mpg wise? (its auto =( )
A: The engine you named, the transmission you named and the rear end are all as tough as nails in that car, but the tranny and the rear end are both known power hogs, you lose close to 60hp through both of them, which is really going to give you poor fuel economy, not that the 351 was known for being a gas sipper any way… Really it is a bad ass car, and at 84,000 miles worth a fair amount, and will most definitely make heads turn. Its really not a practical choice. You will spend so much money on gas that you wont ever go to the mall because you will be broke off your ass unless someone else is picking up the bill. Really its a nice car, but not an everyday driver.

Q: 351Windsor v8 OHV to SOHC swap? Possible / practical or not?
Running a 1974 Ford Gran Torino Elite, with a 351 Windsor V8 OHV carbuerated with a holley carb. Don’t mind putting in a good bit of money, right now I’m merely in the planning stage. I was just wondering, as I’ve been doing my research on engine components; My beloved car uses an overhead valve camshaft design. I’m not too keen on the whole pushrod idea, but I can live with it if it’s not that big of a deal.
I would like to switch to a SOHC design, as they logically seem more reliable at higher operating speeds. I just want to know if it’s possible, the more I think about it the better off I am with an OHV pushrod design, as they work just fine at low rpm’s and that low end torque is what I’m aiming for. But I still can’t quite see how an OHV design, while it would be stable at low rpm’s, how it would be more efficient than a SOHC as there’s more mass against your operation thanks to that pushrod.
Regardless I’m still aiming for a low-end powerband, so my land-yacht doesn’t have to struggle with daily commute but can still get up there quite quickly should I decide to bring it to the tracks, as my brother owns a 99 trans am with an LS1 motor, and I would like to at least give him some decent competition. I know that featherlight car would get up to speed much quicker than my tank, but I’d still like to be able to compete so I’m aiming for low end torque, as my tank’s a bit more stable and can handle more stress at lift-off.
So it all boils down to this. Aiming for low to medium range torque, typically 1500-5500 RPM powerband, and I see my OHV camshaft design as a hinderance. Is it possible to swap to a SOHC or DOHC design, and would that be practical for what I’m aiming for?
If it is possible and practical, I do intend to replace my cylinder heads and intake manifold at the same time as the cam, and thinking about upping the carb as well all at once, so I can set up for the perfect combination here. Thanks for your help!
EDIT:: After looking at some edelbrock intake manifolds as well as heads, I noticed it’s possible to modify the 351W into a mock Boss 351, by utilizing an intake they’ve designed specifically for this purpose in conjunction with Performer RPM Cleveland heads. I was thinking of going with the Edel Performer RPM cleveland heads and E-Boss intake, as well as an edelbrock hydraulic roller camshaft kit. Is there anything I’m missing? Let me know your opinion on this. Again, trying to compete with a ‘99 Trans Am Firebird running an LS1.
Edit 2: The mock-351 Boss I’m talking about is more well known as a 351 Clevo / Clevor.
Edit 3: Yes, I am talking about converting my OHV windsor to an OHC.
A: When you say you want to go to a SOHC design, are you talking about converting your 351W to OHC, or getting a whole new OHC engine ?? I’ve never seen an OHC conversion of any Ford small blocks. On a SOHC complete engine, the current Ford V-8 are a very wide engine, but it might fit between your shock towers. How ’bout a 351W stroker ?? You want both low to medium rpm range torque, and cubic inches is torque. I have a 351W stroked to 427 in my ‘89 Mustang, and torque is not a problem. You can get a decent 351W427 short block for two or three grand, & do the top of the engine yourself. The cubic inches will give you torque, and a nice set of Trick Flow aluminum heads will give you higher rpm horsepower.
